[ARCHIVED] Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the North Myrtle Beach Aquatic & Fitness Center will be bringing the community together throughout the month to raise money for Caring In Our Lifetime, a non-profit that they have been raising money for since 2017.

Caring In Our Lifetime is dedicated to raising funds and providing financial assistance with medical expenses to individuals in Horry and Georgetown Counties affected by Breast Cancer. Your kindness and generosity are helping to support the local fight against Breast Cancer.

All proceeds from each event and t-shirt sales will go to Caring In Our Lifetime.

According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, "In 2024, more than 360,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer. But there is hope. Advancements in early detection methods and support continue to increase the chances of survival. When caught in its earliest, localized stages, the 5-year relative survival rate of breast cancer is 99%."

With this statistic in mind, the North Myrtle Beach Aquatic & Fitness Center is kicking off their Breast Cancer Awareness Month by partnering with Conway Medical Center for a 3D Mobile Mammography Screening event.

3D Mobile Mammography Screening

Conway Medical Center will be in the parking lot of the North Myrtle Beach Aquatic & Fitness Center on Wednesday, October 2 offering 3D Mammography Screenings.

They are accepting appointments between 8 AM and 3 PM. To schedule an appointment, please call 843-234-5474. While appointments are preferred, they are accepting walk-ins, as well.

To be eligible for a Mammogram on the Mobile Unit, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Bring a picture ID and your insurance card. Uninsured or underinsured patients may qualify for a grant to cover the cost. There is an eligibility/income form you may complete when you have your exam.
  • Patients must be age 40 or older.
  • We accept self-referrals on patients with no history of breast cancer. This means no doctor order is required. For patients with a history of breast cancer, with no active problems, we are able to do a routine screening mammogram with a doctor order.
  • Patient must not have any current or new breast problems such as lumps, discharge, or swelling.
  • Your previous mammogram must have been a complete year, plus a day for your insurance to cover the exam.
  • You must not be pregnant and not have nursed within the past six months.
  • Our mobile unit is not accessible to wheelchairs. Individuals must be able to stand during the mammogram procedure.
  • If your last Mammogram was not with Conway Medical Center, to better serve you, please bring all prior facility information with you including date of last Mammogram.
  • No recent COVID Vaccine or Booster in the last four weeks.
