Career & Training
Battalion Chief Overholser began his fire service career in Ohio in 2002 completing the Ohio Fire Academy through Hocking College. After relocating to the Myrtle Beach area in 2003, he obtained his EMT-B and began ride-alongs with HCFR and North Myrtle Beach Fire. He was hired by the city in May, 2005 as part of a cross-training program being dual-certified as a firefighter and police officer. BC Overholser was promoted to Lieutenant in October, 2008 and was one of the initial IC’s of the Barefoot Wildfire Incident. In August, 2013 he promoted to Battalion Chief. From 2013 through 2023, Chief Overholser managed fleet maintenance and station repairs for the fire rescue division and is a member of the uniform committee. In 2015, he attended the TEEX Enhanced All-Hazards Incident Management in College Station, Texas furthering his abilities to manage expanding and/or complex incidents. Battalion Chief Overholser enjoys teaching and now that he has finished college, has began the process of obtaining his EFO certification to enhance his leadership and development professionally.
Education
Battalion Chief Overholser has an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science, Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration and a Master’s Degree in Public Health; all from Columbia Southern University. He is currently enrolled in the Executive Fire Officer program with the National Fire academy.
Responsibilities
Battalion Chief Overholser oversees C-battalion, which includes 6 officers, 6 engineers and 6 firefighters. Staffing, shift-level training, mentorship, incident command and professional development are some of the main duties but maintaining his shift often has many varying duties.
Personal Life
Battalion Chief Overholser was married in October, 2020 and has a daughter, as well as 2 fun-loving dogs. He is a die hard Buckeye and Bengal fan and enjoys watching and attending when he can find the time.
