Billy Floyd was promoted to Deputy Fire Chief on May 23rd, 2021 after serving as the Division Chief of Fire Training since January of 2013.

 


 Career & Training
 

Deputy Chief Floyd began his Fire Service Career as a Volunteer Firefighter in 1996 with the Nichols VFD in Marion County, South Carolina where he was born and worked as a Career Firefighter for the City of Mullins Fire and Rescue from 2001 until 2005 in which he came to the City of North Myrtle Beach.


 From May of 2005 to October 2008 he served as a Firefighter/PSO, Fire Lieutenant, and Training Captain prior to accepting a position as Training Captain with Horry County Fire Rescue in November 2008 and remained there until returning to North Myrtle Beach in January 2013 as the Division Chief of Fire Training. He is also an Adjunct Instructor for the South Carolina Fire Academy and has been teaching for the Academy around the state since 2006. He is also an Instructor for the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, National Fire Academy, and the South Carolina Emergency Management Division.

 

Education

Deputy Chief Floyd holds an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science from Keiser University, a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Public Safety and Emergency Management and a Master’s of Science in Leadership with an Emphasis in Disaster Preparedness and Executive Fire Leadership both from Grand Canyon University. He holds IFSAC certifications in Fire Officer, I, II and III, Fire Instructor I and II, Firefighter I and II amongst several others. Deputy Chief Floyd is also accredited as a Chief Training Officer through the Center of Public Safety Excellence, a designation currently held by less than 200 Officers nationwide.

Responsibilities

As Deputy Fire Chief of North Myrtle Beach Fire Department, he is responsible for the day to day operations of our 60 Uniformed Personnel assigned to the Operations Division which includes 3 Battalion Chiefs, 18 Fire Lieutenants, 18- Engineers and 21 Firefighter/EMT positions.

Deputy Chief Floyd also assists as the Emergency Operations Center Coordinator for the Department to assist Chief Spain who also serves as the Emergency Management Coordinator for the City.

Club Membership

Deputy Chief Floyd is an active member in his community assisting with several organizations when he can. He and his wife are active volunteers with the North Myrtle Beach Sea Turtle Patrol, an organization of members who volunteer their time to walk our beaches daily during sea turtle nesting season and assist in preserving nests found to ensure that hatchlings emerge safely and find their way back to the ocean.
 

Family

Deputy Chief Floyd is happily married to his wife Crystal. They share 5 children together in their household; 4 sons (Joshua, Jeremy, Jarrett and Jesse) and 1 daughter (Sydney). There is never a dull moment when it comes to the Floyd household that’s for certain.
