Gordon Best Dedication Sign Preview

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Family, friends, city leaders from North Myrtle Beach, along with North Myrtle Beach police officers and public safety will gather at the Chris Anderson Boat Landing on Monday, June 20, to dedicate the Waccamaw River Swamp Bridge in honor of Sergeant Gordon Best.

The dedication event starts at 10 a.m.

On January 1, 2021, North Myrtle Beach Police Sergeant Gordon William Best lost his life while in service to the community.

In the early morning hours, Sergeant Best responded to a call for service in Barefoot Resort. Roads were very wet and, while headed southbound on Highway 17, he lost control of his Police vehicle. The vehicle veered into a northbound lane and collided with a utility pole. Sergeant Best was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.
